Cardiology Department
The department of cardiology, Calicut medical college caters to the six northern districts of Kerala. The services rendered by the department include outpatient care, inpatient care, interventional treatments including coronary and non coronary interventions and special clinics like pacemaker clinics. Cardiology OP is conducted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with 250-350 patients attending every OP days. Cardiology CCU with 14 beds and cath ICU with 14 beds has all facilities. Separate male and female wards are there for treating in patients. The interventional procedures include primary and elective angioplasties, peripheral angioplasties, aortic interventions,balloon mitral valvotomy, paediatric interventions including ASD devise , PDA device and coil closures, coarctation stenting , balloon pulmonary valvotomy and electro physiological procedures like pacemaker implantation and catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias. Device closure of pulmonary AV malformations, coronary AV fistulas, RSOV and device closure of post MI VSR are also done in the department.
With six DM cardiology seats per year, the academic activity of the department is also excellent with daily morning discussion from 8am-9.30 Am except on Sundays. Topic presentations by DM trainees are uploaded in the web site for the educational purpose. The department has 3 units with Prof. C.G. Sajeev heading the department.
